Life is fair, sometimes

We were weeks from bankruptcy and everything looked lost. Then a lawyer heard about our situation the next day and found a way out — for free. Life isn't always fair, but it lands a miracle every once in a while.

The year was 2014. My dad was trying to sell his house and was in talks with multiple builders to close a deal. We were a few weeks away from bankruptcy (I was still looking for a job) and selling the house was our only hope. The builder we were banking on called me up and told me that he won’t be able to buy the house due to a legal complication, which had also been cited by a few other builders. I was devastated. I wasn’t sure how to tell my parents. On the way back, I met a friend to vent my worries.

As I was riding back, I got lost and by the time I found my way, it was dark. A few kilometers from home, my bike ran out of gas. Since there was no gas station nearby, I decided to push my bike the rest of the way. I was hungry, lonely, and frustrated. I kept telling myself that it will all be over in a few minutes. That is when my bike’s rear tire gave up. I couldn’t push any further.

I stopped and sat by the side of the road. It looked like everything was taken away from us. It felt like the end of the world. I hated the universe for conspiring against me. It was hard to watch my parents when I told them the news. I felt bad that I couldn’t do a damn thing to fix the problem. We lost all hope.

But, the next day was different. Turns out the friend I met to vent out had a lawyer uncle. He heard about the issue and agreed to talk to us. The lawyer suggested a way out of the legal complication and didn’t even charge a fee. We approached a new builder with the solution, and we closed the deal on the house. Everything changed in a single day.

We all would’ve come across some worst days. And when we think there is no way out, life lands us a miracle. I’m not saying life is fair all the time. But, it does land a miracle every once in a while. The only thing we could do on our part is have immense hope.
